Walsall Council has partnered with Konica Minolta Business Solutions (UK) Ltd to transform its long-standing in-house print and design operation into a modern, flexible service capable of meeting evolving print demands. By adopting advanced digital presses and finishing solutions, the council has dramatically improved efficiency, versatility, and cost-effectiveness, supporting internal teams and generating external revenue from other public sector organisation customers.
Challenge
Having used reliable Litho print for many years, the council had found that the nature of its in-house print demands had evolved especially during the COVID19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown. It had moved away from the need to pre-print high volumes of leaflets and standardised documents in favour of shorter runs of more bespoke items to support events and other council initiatives, as well as producing signage and banners with QR codes. To support this, the management team was keen to update its production print solutions with modern digital presses for greater flexibility in terms of print-on-demand timing and a wider range of print applications, including signage and promotional goods.
Solution
Konica Minolta delivered a customconfigured combination of presses, finishing tools, workflow and ordering systems. The new look print room now includes four digital production presses, consisting of two AccurioPress C4080 colour presses with SD-513 SquareFold booklet makers, an AccurioPress 7120 mono press with an SD-510 booklet maker and an AccurioPrint 2100 mono press also with an SD-510 booklet maker. These are managed through Konica Minolta’s AccurioPro FLUX Premium workflow and PlanetPress Connect software, which provides greater levels of automation for print jobs.
