Konica Minolta and PSTI

Part 1 of The Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure Act 2022 (PSTI Act), introduces a regulatory framework aimed at enhancing the security of consumer connectable products against the risk of cyber threats.

The Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure (Security Requirements for Relevant Connectable Products) Regulations 2023 (Regulation) exercises the provisions of the PSTI Act applicable in the UK from 29 April 2024.

This Regulation mandates minimum security standards, on manufacturers, importers and, distributors. For manufacturers of devices like printers and MFPs which can connect to the internet, compliance entails meeting these security standards set out within the Regulation, providing transparent information on software updates, and prompt reporting of security vulnerabilities.

Whilst the focus of the PSTI Act is on consumer connectable devices, the Regulation’s broad definitions suggest eventual coverage of certain business devices exported by manufacturers into the UK market. Consequently, we have been working with our parent company in Japan to ensure that we comply with the Regulations.
