Bolton College is one of the largest providers of further education in north-west England who recently relocated. As part of the relocation, they used this as an opportunity to rationalise their print management and document imaging.
They had 280 printers with various suppliers and on different contracts. And several older photocopiers that weren't networked. Managing the logistics, cost and support for this print fleet was very demanding. They needed to rationalise their range of suppliers and print technologies.
Bolton College decided to investigate using multi-functional devices for their workgroups. They issued a tender document through the Buying Solutions public sector framework.
After some demos, the Bolton College team thought that our print technologies and services stood out in terms of build quality. They were also much easier to integrate with software solutions used by the College.
Key deciding factors for us winning the tender included:
- the 'future-proof' nature of the proposal
- the cost-effectiveness
- providing the most competitive bid
The College also needed digital production print systems for their new print room. We supplied three high-speed mono and colour digital systems, with a binding finisher. We also installed software that would allow users to send print jobs via the College intranet. This has allowed the College to reduce the amount of outsourced printing. So they can be responsive and flexible while controlling quality and costs.
The new managed print solution we supplied has reduced their operating costs and administrative time. The usage records allow us to optimise usage of the devices and re-position devices in high workload areas with a less utilised machine.
"The cost of our print output has reduced by a third since we switched to using Konica Minolta multi-functional devices. The billing is simpler to understand and administer. We are spending a lot less on toner and ink cartridges...due to the innovative CS Remote Care solution built into the devises. Our print room can now cope with all the major College print jobs...Print output is one thing I no longer have to worry about."
