Konica Minolta’s new multifunctional replaces mono with colour

Milton Keynes UK, 11 June 2007

Konica Minolta Business Solutions (UK) Ltd has launched the bizhub C451 multifunction imaging system. The bizhub C451 features network printer, copier and network scanner functionality and can print or copy in colour and black and white at 45 pages per minute. Crucially the bizhub C451 offers the same black and white cost per print as a conventional black and white copier-printer. This means customers can upgrade to the bizhub C451 without paying a premium on black and white output, while getting the versatility of a true colour multifunction system.

The bizhub C451 couples stunning good looks with design innovation. For access by users of all abilities the design also includes a full colour 8.5-inch display, with a touch screen that can be both rotated and tilted to suit a desired position. The screen also features thumbnails of each job in the user box for easy recall and rerouting.

Design innovation is matched by technical innovation. The bizhub C451 uses new Induction Fusing technology for lower temperature fusing, reducing energy consumption and producing less paper curl than conventional fusing. This also gives the bizhub C451 a warm up time of only 85 seconds from cold and an amazing 12 seconds from standby. In addition the bizhub C451 benefits from using Konica Minolta’s patented Simitri® HD Polymerised Toner with smaller, smoother, more uniform toner particles for more even distribution, significantly better fine line definition, and better solid fills.

The bizhub C451 features new slit scan technology so it can scan originals at the rate of up to 70 colour or mono sheets per minute at 300 dpi resolution. For customers using archiving software this allows high speed and accurate scanning of documents. Document scans can also be sent externally via email, to an FTP server or to a user’s personal folder on their desktop.

In common with all Konica Minolta’s bizhub systems the bizhub C451 uses bizhub open platform (OP) architecture and features the very latest Emperon image controller. This provides a unified driver for the print and scan functions, as well as straightforward network integration. The image controller supports PCL6c and PostScript Level 3 printing as standard.

A 60 Gigabyte hard drive provides up to 1,000 User Boxes. Boxes can be designated for Personal or Public access. Boxes can store print, scan, copy and fax jobs, and jobs can be moved or copied from one box to another. The main display shows a colour thumbnail of the front page of stored jobs. Access to Personal User Boxes can be protected by a box user authentication password.

The bizhub C451 is available with a range of high productivity finishing options including sorting, stapling and saddle stitching, as well as two and four hole punching capabilities. A Super G3 fax module is also an option.

Commenting on the launch of the bizhub C451, John Howard, Head of Marketing for Konica Minolta (UK) said, “Customers can now upgrade to a true colour system without incurring additional black and white printing costs. This makes the bizhub C451 an ideal and cost-effective replacement for older analogue copiers and first generation digital multifunctionals. Because the bizhub C451 features advanced user authentication, customers can control user access to features such as colour printing to control costs.”

Ends.
