Parallel and USB are send to the Language server, there are no other protocols that will interfere.
Only the protocol 9100 supports bi-directional communication.
IPX/SPX (Netware) supports both Print Server mode and Remote printer mode. Only 1 of these protocols can be used. It is not possible to connect 1 printer via both Print Server mode and Remote printer mode.
EtherTalk supports PAP (Printer Advertising Protocol) which is a bi-directional communication protocol.
When multiple jobs are sent to the printer via the various interfaces, the port selector checks the following ports in the following order:
1. Network
2. USB
3. Parallel
When there are multiple jobs sent to the network interface, the Network Protocol selector will randomly select the next network job available on any of the network ports.
When one interface is being used, the IPP, Ethertalk and SMB protocol return a busy signal to the work station, where the other protocols will wait or can timeout. This will depend on the external host that determines how protocol time-outs are handled.
Simultaneous multiple protocol connections are supported but only one connection at a time can transfer data.
